Abstract

Valves for urban gas systems, as an important component of the national quality infrastructure, have their standardization directly impacting the safe operation of gas pipeline networks and the high-quality development of the industry. This paper systematically examines the current status and development trends of valve standardization in China’s urban gas systems, with a particular focus on three major frameworks: basic general standards, product-specific standards, and emerging?field standards. The study reveals that China has established a relatively comprehensive valve standardization system, covering the entire chain from gas transmission and distribution to storage and end?use applications. This includes foundational standards as well as technical specifications for specialized products such as gas?fired appliances, safety shut?off valves, and smart gas meters. Notably, in emerging areas like hydrogen?related valves, LNG cryogenic valves, and smart valves, significant progress has been made in standard development, providing crucial support for technological innovation in the sector. Looking ahead, priority should be given to refining the full?life?cycle standardization framework, strengthening standards related to data exchange and predictive maintenance for smart valves, and actively participating in the co?development of international standards to promote the global dissemination of China’s advanced technologies.
